About the role:

As a dancer with The Australian Ballet you’ll be required to rehearse, understudy, and perform such roles with The Australian Ballet as allocated by the Artistic Director in accordance with their training, experience, and ability. There is a touring component of up to six months per year associated with this position.

What you’ll be doing:

  • rehearse, understudy and perform roles allocated by the Artistic Director and in accordance with the circulated performance cast schedule
  • rehearse, understudy and perform roles at theatres or other places of public performance as the Company may nominate from time to time
  • attend classes and rehearsals as set out in the class and rehearsal schedules
  • follow up on advice from The Australian Ballet Artistic Health team (or referrals)
  • maintain physical and mental wellbeing (strength, endurance, and mobility)
  • represent The Australian Ballet when required for media, publicity, and sponsorship events
  • work in accordance with the applicable terms and conditions of the current Dancers’ Enterprise Agreement
  • work in accordance with the general rules and conditions pertaining to dancers of The Australian Ballet including Rules of the Theatre
  • undertake any other duties or roles as reasonably requested by the Artistic Director

What you’ll need:

  • Extensive training in classical ballet
  • To successfully fulfil the roles and responsibilities as outlined above, the dancer should demonstrate:
  • Superior dance technique
  • Appropriate skills and knowledge for learning, rehearsing and performing dance roles as part of the body of dancers
  • Stagecraft skills
  • The ability to undertake all responsibilities associated with make-up and costume as required
  • Musicality as appropriate to performing as a dancer
  • The ability to interpret the choreographic content of a production
  • Overall physical attributes required for a male or female dancer performing with The Australian Ballet as determined by the Artistic Director.
